Robert Moses

Robert Moses' plans
Ever heard of the name Robert Moses ?
Well if you're not from NYC , it wouldn't surprise me if you haven't.

Robert Moses or '' the master builder '' , is the guy behind the Jones beach, the Lincoln center and much more.
But what we are interested in is the Cross Bronx Expressway ( major freeway in the bronx )
Moses wanted to build this high way for progress and modernity . However this project ended up dislocating many people because they had to leave their houses .
Some saw this as ' destruction for improvement ' , while others decided for revolution .

But not the kind of revolution you know ... A dance revolution

A little more history just in order to understand everything well;
So as I was saying, Moses was starting the construction of the cross bronx expressway -> this leads to a loss of value of homes ( who wants to live next to a high way , right ? ) .  therefor some people ended up living there just because there was no money to live elsewhere, while others burned down their houses just to get a small amount of money from the insurance

A warzone ; teenagers fighting against each other and gangs began to rise in the neighborhood

However, and this is the interesting part because you all expect me to say there were tears and blood .

But no . instead of fighting, dance battles were organized .

I guess what we can say from this is that culture was created out of destruction .
changing conditions around you and the way you cope with it can result in beautiful art .

Hip hop is about transforming destruction into art .

Let's say thank you to Mr Robert Moses for both making our way through NYC easier, and for the creation of some of the biggest tracks in the Hip Hop industry .

song : Break machine - street dance

'' everywhere that you may go
We're jamming in the streets
All the people that you meet
dance to the beat ''

'' If you come to New York city
You'll never be the wack
when you see us city kids
spinning on our backs ''
